ECO-ADVENTURE COMPANY WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD!

FIRST CANADIAN FIRM TO EVER BE AWARDED IN FORMAL CEREMONY IN LONDON, ENGLAND!

This year marks the first year that a Canadian company has ever won the prestigious award for “Creative Excellence and Innovation” at the Canada Travel Awards in London England. Created to highlight Canada as a tourism destination for the UK market, the Canada Travel Awards have become the premier showcase of Canadian tourism products in the United Kingdom.

“The thing that really excites people”, says Robin Banerjee, Call Of The Wild’s head guide, “is the dog sledding. For 4 days we mush through the forest trails of Algonquin Park, covering about 30 km a day. The sense of exhilaration you get from controlling your own sled and a team of 4 huskies is hard to describe”.

Unlike many commercial operators who offer short, hour long, rides, Call Of The Wild stresses an authentic Canadian experience. Each person will mush their own sled pulled by 4 eager huskies. “Its much more enjoyable to have a sled to yourself”, says Robin, “it’s like driving a race car – leaning into the corners, and hanging on to your hat on the downhill trails!”

The first 4 days of the trip are spent dog sledding, with nights being spent in a heated “hunter’s” cabin deep inside Algonquin Park. The last 3 days consist of a variety of “traditional” Canadian winter activities, all centered around a remote Nordic Wilderness Lodge. There are no phones and no electricity, so there are no distractions, and yet it is very cozy. Lighting is provided by lantern, and there is even a wood fired outdoor hot tub and sauna! Now that’s roughing it! From here the adventurers can go cross country skiing on over 70 km of groomed trail, or go for a snowshoe hike in the forest. As always, at night there is the possibility of hearing wild wolves howling in the distance! And just in case the wolves don’t cooperate, Call Of The Wild has arranged a visit with a Wolf research Centre where captive wolves can easily be seen in their 15 acre compound.

Call Of The Wild has been a leader in Soft Adventure in Ontario since their inception in 1993. Their dedication to a high quality experience has led them to be listed in several international guide books, as well as the subject for foreign television shows. Working closely with Ontario’s Ministry Of Tourism, they are striving to make Ontario a year round adventure destination. In addition to this New Year’s trip, they offer dog sledding expeditions and snowmobile safaris throughout the winter, and wilderness canoe trips in the summer. Details and schedules can be seen on their award winning website at: www.CallOfTheWild.ca

Algonquin Park is Ontario’s oldest, largest and best known Provincial Park. The park was established in 1893 and comprises 7725 square kilometres of forest, lake and river. This is 1.5 times larger than Prince Edward Island, ¼ the size of Hawaii, 3 times larger than Luxembourg, and 7 times larger than Hong Kong. Within it’s borders are over 2500 freshwater lakes, and it is home to over 2000 black bears, more than 200 wolves, and over 3300 moose. In fact, the Park is considered to be one of the finest moose-viewing areas in the world.
